I am interested in knowing more about changes in the steelworks over the years in the storage, processing and movement of raw materials.

I notice in the Old Photos gallery an aerial view "air 18" which shows a large stockpile to the left of the steelworks where I think the bloom mill was later constructed. Can anyone date the photo and tell me what the stockpile is, coal or iron ore? Where did it go from the stockpile?

Does anyone have other aerial photos or site plans over the years showing how and where iron ore and coal were stored and moved around the site.

RE. Old photos.
Stockpile where No 2 Bloommill was built, was a coal stockpile with a coalbridge over the top.
Hope this helps,
Big Grin

Thanks Aub
Do you have any idea the period during which the coal stockpile was here? Was it here right up to when the bloommill was built?
Was it a stockpile of washed or unwashed coal?

it would be unwashed coal....wash coal was not stored outside
because or recontamination and was used soon after cleaning.
